POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
TYMPANOPLASTY/MASTIODECTOMY/STAPEDECTOMY
After the procedure here are some things to remember when you get home:

Rest 1 week; resume activity as soon as you feel comfortable. No heavy lifting, light activity only for 1 week.

Take the prescribed antibiotics as directed by physician.

Take the prescribed pain medication for pain as needed.

Keep ear dry for 2 weeks.

You may drive when off pain medicine, and dizziness has subsided.

Return to the clinic in 1-2 weeks. If not scheduled already, call the office to make a follow-up appointment.

Sneeze with mouth open for 1 week.

No nose blowing for 1 week.

No wind instruments for 2 weeks.
Here is what you can expect:
Bleeding
There should be minimal bleeding.
Dressing
May have large bulky dressing for one day, then change to a cotton ball. May then only use a cotton ball.
Dizziness
May have some dizziness for a week.
Pain
Mild to moderate pain, take pain medicine as needed..
Nausea
Can last for 24 hours.
Temperature
Mild elevation up to 100 degrees F for 48 hours.
